“The Colony” is a science fiction story set in the future where Earth’s elite has fled to a distant planet due to heavy pollution. Some of their descendants return to Earth to evaluate the state of the planet and the remaining population. Swiss film director Tim Fehlbaum put together a movie that does contain some fascinating elements but never lives up to its potential. There are stretches of boring scenes with poorly written dialogue, as well as an excessively dark atmosphere throughout. He wrote the mediocre screenplay with Mariko Minoguchi.
The mostly European cast includes Nora Arnezeder, Sarah-Sophie Boussina, Iian Glen, Joel Basman, Sebastian Roche, Bella Bading, and Sope Dirisu. The barely watchable “The Colony” was a flop at the international box office for German and Swiss production companies BerghausWobke Filmproduktion, Vega Film, Constantin Film, and Saban Films. It was filmed in the German Tidelands of Germany and in Basil, Switzerland. The movie was also marketed under the name “Tides.”
