“The Christmas Card” is one of the most popular made-for-television movies of all time. It tells the heart warming story of a U. S. Army Sergeant serving in Afghanistan who is touched by an anonymous Christmas card he receives from a woman in a small town in California; he later visits her.
This very G-rated family film was superbly written by Joany Kane and expertly directed by Stephen Bridgewater. There are some good performances by John Haymes Newton and Alice Evans as the actors in the male and female lead roles. The supporting cast includes Ed Asner, Lois Nettleton, Peter Jason, Ben Weber, Andrew Sanford, Kate Hamon, Glorinda Marie, Chad Collins, and Charlie Holliday as Reverend Ives.
Show biz veteran Ed Asner was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for his efforts in the very watchable “The Christmas Card” from producer Larry Levinson and Alpine Medien Productions. It was broadcast on the Hallmark Channel in December, 2006.
