My Review

Producer Vince Vaughn has come up with a hit in the slick romantic comedy “The Break-Up.” He stars with Jennifer Anniston as an unmarried couple who come to an impasse in their relationship, but neither wants to move out, as they jointly own a valuable condo in Chicago.

The story was conceived by Vaughn, and well written by screenwriters Jay Lavender and Jeremy Garelick. Director Peyton Reed (“Down With Love” 2003) gives the film continuity and brings out good performances by the actors. He manages the good chemistry between Vaughn and Anniston, each having their own patented comic deliveries. Co-stars include Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Cole Hauser, Judy Davis, Joey Lauren Adams, Justin Long, Vincent D’Onofrio, John Michael Higgins, Peter Billingsley, and Ann-Margret as Anniston’s mother.

As the song says, “Breaking up is hard to do,” but “The Break-up” is easy and fun to watch, and was successful in theatrical release for producer Vince Vaughn, Wild West Picture Show Production, and Universal Pictures.
