My Review

“The Boys from Brazil” is a thriller film that tells the strange story of a plot to make 95 clones of Adolph Hitler and planting them all over the world, with the goal to finish the diabolical leader’s work. Director Franklin J. Schaffner (“Planet of the Apes” 1968) and screenwriter Heywood Gould put together this film that has good intentions of being a thriller but is actually very dull and plodding, causing the two hour movie to drag on and on. It was adapted from the 1976 novel of the same name by Ira Levin.

The distinguished and diverse cast includes Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, James Mason, Lilli Palmer, Uta Hagen, Steve Guttenberg, Denholm Elliot, Rosemary Harris, John Dehner, John Rubinstein, Anne Meara, and Walter Gotell. “The Boys from Brazil” broke even at the box office for ITC Films, Producer Circle, and 20th Century Fox. It receive three Oscar nominations for Best Actor (Olivier), Best Film Editing, and Best Musical Score (Jerry Goldsmith).
