My Review

“The Book of Henry” is an inspiring and uplifting story about an 11-year-old boy dying of cancer who leaves detailed instructions to his mother to help a neighbor girl suffering from abuse. Director Colin Treverrow, who was at the helm of the blockbuster “Jurrasic World” of 2015, also expertly put together this “small” picture from Gregg Hurwitz’s outstanding screenplay.

The cast delivers some memorable performances, especially Naomi Watts as Susan Carpenter and Jaeden Martell as her son Henry. Others include Jacob Tremblay, Dean Norris, Maddie Ziegler, Sarah Silverman, Lee Pace, Tonya Pinkins, Geraldine Hughes, and Bobby Moynihan.

Top rate job by all in this watchable indy film, “The Book of Henry,” not successful at the box office but a watchable gem of a motion picture on DVD. It was produced by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and distributed by Focus Features, a division of media conglomerate NBCUniversal.
