My Review

“The Blue and the Gray” is the story of a family and their divided loyalties during the American Civil War. This professional production was well directed by Andrew V. McLaglen (“McLintock!” 1963) and well written by Ian McLellan Hunter.

The three-part miniseries benefited from a talented cast that included John Hammond, Stacy Keach, Colleen Dewhurst, Lloyd Bridges, Julia Duffy, Warren Oates, Sterling Hayden, Diane Baker, Paul Winfield, Robert Vaughn, Rory Calhoun, Geraldine Page, Rip Torn, John Vernon, and Gregory Peck as President Abraham Lincoln.

Producers Hugh Benson and Harry Thomason employed high quality production values on this 381 minute motion picture, originally aired on CBS from Nov. 14-17, 1982. “The Blue and the Gray” is very watchable entertainment on dvd.
