My Review

“The Big Picture” is an exciting French thriller about a man who accidentally kills his wife’s lover, and decides to escape punishment by faking his own death and assuming his victim’s identity. He flees to the Adriatic Sea region to start a new life.

Director Eric Lartigau, who also wrote the screenplay with Laurant de Bartillat, has very little wasted screen time in this 114 minute film. Tight direction and marvelous writing keep the viewers collective attention all the way to the conclusion. The film was adapted from the 1997 novel by Douglas Kennedy.

Actor Romain Duris does a good job portraying the successful Paris attorney. The audience easily identifies with him, despite the language barrier (filmed in French with English subtitles). Other cast members include Marina Fois, Neils Arestrup, Branka Katic, Eric Ruf, and the veteran Catherine Deneuve, looking lovelier than ever.

“The Big Picture” from Europa Corp, TF1 Films, and Ciby 2000 was not financially successful in theatrical release.
