Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Shirley Temple star in the screwball comedy “The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer.” Dore Schary produced this RKO Radio Pictures film about a teenage girl’s (Temple) crush on a much older man (Grant). Her older sister (Loy) disapproves, and the hilarity proceeds from there. The watchable motion picture was a big hit at the post-World War II box office.
Sidney Sheldon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his smooth-as-silk script. He had a long career in movies and television, well known for creating hit tv shows like “I Dream of Jeannie” and “Hart to Hart.” Director Irving Reis (“The Big Street” 1942) kept the project professional, as did the wonderful supporting cast: Rudy Vallee, Ray Collins, Harry Davenport, Johnny Sands, Don Beddoe, Dan Tobin, Irving Bacon, and Carol Hughes.
