My Review

“The April Fools” is a romantic comedy film about a stockbroker who meets his boss’s wife at a cocktail party and decides to run off with her to Paris. Director Stuart Rosenberg (“Cool Hand Luke” 1967) instilled the movie with good production values, great performances, and a fascinating and complex story from a well written screenplay by Hal Dresner.

The talented ensemble cast delivered classy performances including Jack Lemmon, Catherine Deneuve, Peter Lawford, Myrna Loy, Charles Boyer, Sally Kellerman, Jack Weston, Janice Carroll, Kenneth Mars, David Doyle, Melinda Dillon, Gary Dubin, and Harvey Korman. Veterans Loy and Boyer really stand out in these most interesting performances.

Marvin Hamlisch wrote the musical score, using two songs penned by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and performed by Dionne Warwick. They are “The April Fools” and “I Say a Little Prayer.” “The April Fools” was successful at the box office for Jalem Productions, Cinema Center Films, and National General Pictures.
