My Review

“The Apprentice” is a biographical film which depicts a young Donald Trump in the early years of his real estate career in the 1970’s, as he was coming under the influence of cutthroat attorney Roy Cohn. Director Ali Abbasi skillfully put together a film that is a surprisingly mild portrait of the controversial 45th President of the United States. Abbasi does not seem to suffer from “Trump derangement syndrome,” although Mr. Trump has condemned the film as a “hatchet job.” We leave judgement to viewers as to the accuracy of the material.

The cast members turned in good performances including Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn, Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, Martin Donovan as Fred Trump Sr., Catherine McNally as Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, Charlie Carrick as Fred Trump Jr., Jason Bricker as George Steinbrenner, Mark Rendall as Roger Stone, Bruce Beaton as Andy Warhol, Tom Barnett as Rupert Murdoch, Stuart Hughes as Mike Wallace, and Ian D. Clark as Mayor Ed Koch of New York City.

“The Apprentice” performed moderately well at the box office for Scythia Films, Profile Pictures, Tailored Films, AC Films, Rich Spirit, AQuest Films, Head Gear Films, Metrol Technology, and Wild7 Films.
