“The Apology” is a horror film about a woman who hosts a Christmas eve dinner when her brother-in-law’s unexpected arrival brings some unwanted revelations about her daughter’s death twenty years ago. The subsequent brawl between the two brings terror to the fore, fairly well managed by director-screenwriter Alison Star Locke. The downside of the film is that it is based on a far-fetched premise and unnecessary heavy drama that would be avoided in most real-life situations.
The cast does deliver acceptable performances, including Anna Gunn, Linus Roache, Janeane Garofalo, Mary Leeholland, Esme McSherry, and Zena Leigh Logan as a reporter. This film is almost unwatchable, and seems like a huge waste of time. “The Apology” is a production of SpectreVision and Company X, and released on streaming services like Shudder and AMC+ and on home video dvd service RLJ Entertainment.
