My Review

A modern and updated version of Michael Crichton’s 1969 novel (and 1971 film) “The Andromeda Strain” is out from producers Ridley Scott and Tony Scott. It basically has the same story, with a few changes, as the film, i.e., about a team of scientists investigating a highly contagious disease from outer space.

Director Mikael Salomon (HBO’s “Rome” 2005-2007) delivered crisp direction, and his experienced hand helped keep everything on track. Teleplay writer Robert Schenkkan penned an easy to follow and interesting tale for this mini-series, a fast moving and suspense-filled two hours and 49 minutes.

The talented cast includes Benjamin Bratt, Eric McCormack, Viola Davis, Daniel Dae Kim, Christa Miller, Ricky Schroder, Andre Braugher, Ted Whittall, Ted Atherton, Eve Harlow, Louis Ferreira, Paul Perri, and Barry Flatman.

“The Andromeda Strain,” from the Ridley and Tony Scott and Paramount Pictures, first aired on the A&E Network on May 26-27, 2008. It was nominated for six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Miniseries, but did not win.
