“The Addams Family 2” is a mediocre but still entertaining sequel to MGM’s 2019 hit “The Addams Family.” Directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan were held over from the first film, and did an acceptable job here. Screenwriters Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, Ben Queen, and Susanna Fogel applied their talents to the big show.
Much of the original voice cast returned, including Oscar Isaac (Gomez), Charlize Theron (Morticia), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday), Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester), Conrad Vernon (Lurch), and Snoop Dog (Cousin Itt). Javon Walton was added as Pugsley, as was Bill Hader as Cyrus Strange as a man who claims to be Wednesday’s biological father.
Charles Addams created the original Addams Family comic strip in 1938, running in magazines and newspapers throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s. The television show ran for two seasons on ABC, 1964-1966. There were three Addams Family live action movies, released in 1991,1993, and 1998. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer created the current computer-animated film series in 2019, with the current product being a watchable movie “The Addams Family 2,” a success at the box office.
