“The A-Team” is an action-comedy film about a close-knit team of special operatives who are imprisoned for a crime they did not commit. They escape and try to clear their name, to make a long story short, and are pursued by an attractive government agent who used to be involved with one of the guys in the group.
So the action and comedy proceed from there under the direction of Joe Carnahan (“Narc” 2002), who co-wrote the screenplay with Brian Bloom and Skip Woods. Carnahan put together a film that is filled with action and some comedy, but with a weak plot and unorganized storyline. No need to worry, as the action comes fast and furious, enough to keep action-loving viewers occupied for the two hour running time (with an extended version on the DVD).
The talented cast includes Liam Neeson as John “Hannibal” Smith, Bradley Cooper as Templeton “Face” Peck, Jessica Biel as Charissa Sosa, Quinton Jackson as Bosco “B. A.” Baracus, Sharlto Copley as H. M. Murdock, Patrick Wilson as Agent Lynch, Gerald McRaney as Gen. Morrison, as well as Jon Hamm, Henry Czerny, Brain Bloom, Terry Chen, Maury Sterling, and Corey Burton as the narrator.
“The A-Team” was based on the television show of the same name that ran on NBC (1983-1987). Two of the original cast members, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz, made cameos in this film. The watchable escapist entertainment film “The A-Team” was popular at the box office for producers Stephen J. Cannell and Tony Scott, Dune Entertainment, Scott Free Entertainment, Top Cow Productions, and 20th Century Fox.
