My Review

“Terminator Salvation” is a mediocre attempt to revive the “Terminator” franchise by director McG (“Charlie’s Angels” 2000) and others. The screenplay by John Brancato and Michael Ferris tells the ho-hum story of John Connor in the year 2018. Christian Bale’s performance as Connor was adequate, but was not inspiring enough to raise this movie to the level of its predecessors (1984, 1991, 2003).

The supporting cast includes Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common, Jane Alexander, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Ironside, Ivan G’Vera, Roland Kickinger, Jadagrace Berry, Brain Steele, Isaac Kappy, and Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor’s voice on a tape recorder.

Arnold Schwarzeneggar’s presence was sorely missed, although his facial likeness was used on a terminator via CGI. Arnold has been busy starring in a two-term stint as Governator of California (2003-2011). There is no doubt that he “will be back” in another Terminator motion picture sometime in the not-to-distant future. James Cameron, Gale Ann Hurd, and Warner Bros. will be counting the days, as “Terminator Salvation” was a modest success in theatrical release.
