My Review

“Tennessee’s Partner” is a classic B western turned out by RKO Radio Pictures in the 1950’s. Though it has a poorly written screenplay based on a Bret Harte story and lackluster performances, there is enough action and star power to make this an entertaining movie for audiences at the Saturday matinee double feature in the Eisenhower Era, or on DVD or streaming services in the 21st Century!

John Payne, Ronald Reagan, Rhonda Fleming, and Coleen Gray head up the cast. These sort of roles as the best friend who doesn’t get the girl were a staple for Reagan. Other actors include Tony Caruso, Morris Ankrum, Leo Gordon, Chubby Johnson, Myron Healey, and Angie Dickinson in a small uncredited role as Ann Dean. This was Dickinson’s second motion picture.
