My Review

“Ted” is a satirical comedy film produced, directed, and co-written by Seth MacFarlane in his big-screen directorial debut. This is a ridiculous story about a man who is still living a partying lifestyle well into his thirties with his childhood friend Ted, a teddy bear who came to life when he was eight years old. This endangers his four year relationship with his girl friend, who is looking for a marriage proposal.

It is difficult to tell the narrative of the movie with a straight face, especially with the poorly written screenplay, the predictable storyline, and the continual barrage of foul language throughout the film’s 106 minutes. Seth MacFarlane provides the voice and performs the main character in motion capture. The rest of the cast seems trapped and must perform for the paycheck, including Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Joel McHale, Giovanni Ribisi, Aedin Mincks, Partick Warburton, Matt Walsh, Jessica Barth, Robert Wu, Patrick Stewart as the Narrator, and cameos by Sam J. Jones, Norah Jones, Tom Skerritt, Ted Danson.

As there is no accounting for taste, or lack of taste, “Ted” was successful at the box office for Fuzzy Door Productions and Universal Pictures. The film was also nominated for an Academy Award, for Best Original Song, “Everybody Needs a Best Friend,” even Ted.
