Director Todd Phillips (“Road Trip” 2000) has put together a fun film adaptation of a 1970’s television show called “Starsky & Hutch.” His screenplay, that he co-wrote with John O’Brien and Scot Armstrong, is not exactly Shakespeare but does contain lots of laughs and entertainment spread throughout the movie.
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are perfect for the roles of Detectives David Starsky and Ken Hutchinson, respectively. They both have great comic delivery for a comedy buddy picture like this one. Co-stars include Vince Vaughn, Snoop Dog, Jason Bateman, Fred Williamson, Carmen Electra, Amy Smart, Juliette Lewis, Molly Simms, George Cheung, Chris Penn, Terry Crews, Brande Roderick, Patton Oswalt, and Will Ferrell in an uncredited part. The original Starsky and Hutch, Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul, make cameo appearances. Their show ran on ABC from 1975 to 1979.
“Starsky & Hutch” is great escapist programming, and was successful at the box office for Warner Bros. Pictures. Ben Stiller and Carmen Electra were both nominated for Golden Raspberry Awards for their performances.
