Jeff Bridges delivers a quirky and memorable performance as an alien who becomes stranded on Earth and clones the body of a deceased human to survive. Director John Carpenter (“Escape From New York” 1981) gave plenty of attention to detail in the making of the film so that it has good production values. It also helped Bridges to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
The supporting cast includes Karen Allen, Charles Martin Smith, Richard Jaeckel, Robert Phalen, Ted White, Mickey Jones, Lu Leonard, Ralph Cosham, and Dirk Blocker, son of Dan Blocker of “Bonanza” fame. “Starman” barely made any money at the box office for Delphi II Productions, Industrial Light & Magic, and Columbia Pictures.
