My Review

“Star Trek Into Darkness” is an exciting twelfth installment in the “Star Trek” movie franchise, sequel to the 2009’s “Star Trek” reboot. Producer-director J. J. Abrams and screenwriters Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof brought back some familiar characters like Khan Noonien Singh, Christopher Pike, Dr. Carol Marcus, and her father, Admiral Alexander Marcus, a new person in the “Trek” mix, adding to the intrigue. One can imagine the goings-on with people like this in the plot.

The new “Star Trek” crew members, in their second go-around, were indeed well cast, including Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Montgomery Scott, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov. The supporting cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan, Alice Eve as Dr. Marcus, Peter Weller as Admiral Marcus, Bruce Greenwood as Admiral Pike, and Noel Clarke, Amanda Foreman, Nazneen Contractor, Jay Scully, and Leonard Nimoy making what amounts to a cameo appearance as the original Spock.

The special effects are better than ever for number twelve, being handled by LucasFilm’s Industrial Light & Magic. “Star Trek Into Darkness” had many screenings in 3D, adding to the success at the box office for Bad Robot Productions and Paramount Pictures.
