“Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” continues the story that began in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.” It has Admiral James T. Kirk and his bridge crew risking their careers absconding the decommissioned Enterprise to return to the restricted Genesis planet to recover Spock’s body. They must also deal with a group of Klingons determined to get their hands on the Genesis devise.
The director was Leonard Nimoy in his feature film debut. He did quite well with the screenplay by producer Harve Bennett. The cast includes William Shatner as Jim Kirk, DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, James Doohan as Scotty, George Takai as Sulu, Walter Koenig as Chekov, Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, Dame Judith Anderson as T’Lar, Christopher Lloyd as Kruge, Mark Lenard as Sarek, Merritt Butrick as David Marcus, Robin Curtis as Saavik, James B. Sikking as Captain Styles, Miguel Ferrer as his first officer, Grace Lee Whitney as a woman in the cafeteria, Robert Hooks as Admiral Morrow, John Larroquette as Maltz, Harve Bennett as flight recorder voice, and Leonard Nimoy in a cameo as a sleeping Spock. There were a total of seven actors appearing as Spock at different ages.
“Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” was a big block buster at the box office for producer Harve Bennett and Paramount Pictures.
