Director Rob Reiner (“The Sure Thing” 1985) created the classic coming-of-age movie “Stand by Me,” the story of four boys who go on a hike in the woods to find the body of a missing boy, about their same age.
The story (based on Stephen King’s 1982 book “The Body”), the song (Ben E. King’s 1961 release “Stand by Me”), and the chemistry of Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell all combine under the direction of Reiner to form an unforgettable motion picture.
The screenplay by Bruce A. Evans and Reynold Gideon was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. The supporting cast includes Richard Dreyfuss, Kiefer Sutherland, John Cusack, Frances Lee McCain, Bruce Kirby, Gary Riley, Casey Siemaszko, Marshall Bell, Bradley Gregg, William Bronder, and Scott Beach as Mayor Grundy.
“Stand by Me” was very successful at the box office for producer Bruce A. Evans, Act III Productions and Columbia Pictures.
