My Review

“Soul Surfer” is the true story of teenage surfer Bethany Hamilton who loses her arm in a shark attack. Supported by family and friends and her Christian faith, she perseveres to return to professional competition despite troubling questions about her future. Director Sean McNamara (“Reagan” 2024) crafted a fine motion picture, from a screenplay he co-wrote, adapted from Bethany Hamilton’s 2004 autobiography.

The cast delivered some authentic performances, including AnnaSophia Robb as Hamilton, Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt as her parents, as well as Kevin Sorbo, Carrie Underwood, Craig T. Nelson, Lorraine Nicholson, Ross Thomas, Chris Brochu, and Sonia Balmores Chung. “Soul Surfer” was a big hit at the box office for producer Sean McNamara, TriStar Pictures, Film District, Affirm Films, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
