“Sorry, Wrong Number” is a classic film noir with dark scenes, suspense-filled plot, life-or-death scenario, and more. Barbara Stanwyck stars as a bed-ridden woman who overhears a telephone conversation of two men plotting a murder of someone she believes could be her.
Stanwyck delivers the goods in her usual professional manner, with help from director Anatole Litvak (“Out of the Fog” 1941). The screenplay from Lucille Fletcher gave her and the cast great material to work with. They include Ann Richards, Wendell Corey, Ed Begley, Leif Erickson, William Conrad, Harold Vermilyea, Dorothy Neumann, Jimmy Hunt, and Burt Lancaster in one of his first movie roles.
The watchable “Sorry, Wrong Number” had great production values with costumes by Edith Head, musical score by Franz Waxman, and cinematography by Sol Polito. It was a success at the box office for producer Hal B. Wallis and Paramount Pictures.
