“Somewhere in Time” is a sappy, silly, self-indulgent romantic fantasy drama starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Reeve plays a man in 1979 who falls in love with a photograph of a young woman of the past (Seymour) and, through self-hypnosis, travels back to her time in 1912 to meet her.
This ridiculous premise is from a boring screenplay by Richard Matheson, adapted from his own 1975 novel “Big Time Return.” The movie never really has any credibility despite fair production values and adequate direction by Jeannot Scwarc.
The supporting cast includes Christopher Plummer, Teresa Wright, William H. Macy, Bill Erwin, Susan French, George Voskovec, John Alvin,Tim Kazurinsky, and Eddra Gale. “Somewhere in Time” underperformed at the box office for Rastar and Universal Pictures. It was nominated for one Academy Award, Best Costume Design.
