My Review

“Something’s Gotta Give” is typical Nancy Meyers formula romantic comedy fare. There are all of the expected laughs for the big stars of the show, starting with Jack Nicholson, who is in his usual form as a 60-something dating 29-year-old Amanda Peet. They go to her mom’s (Diane Keaton) beach house, expecting solitude but find Keaton there with her sister (Frances McDormand). To make a long story short, Nicholson suffers a heart attack; then the doctor, played by Keanu Reeves, enters the picture. As expected, complications and hilarity arise.

Co-stars include Jon Favreau, Paul Michael Glaser, Rachel Ticotin, KaDee Strickland, and Peter Spears in the madcap comedy. Although not terribly original, “Something’s Gotta Give” is a watchable movie with a million laughs on DVD. And it did earn an Oscar nomination for Diane Keaton. It was a huge hit at the box office for producer-director-screenwriter Nancy Meyers (“Private Benjamin” 1980), Waverly Films, Warner Bros. Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
