My Review

Oliver Stone has made another one of his famous biopics called “Snowden.” The director of such controversial films as “JFK” (1991) and “Nixon” (1995) this time has taken on the story of computer expert Edward Snowden, who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency to the British newspaper The Guardian in 2013.

The details of the motion picture as presumably accurate, as Stone met with Snowden numerous times in his exile in his Moscow apartment. The movie was financed by German production companies, and distributed by Open Road Films. It did not do well at the box office.

Crisp direction by Stone and and a slick screenplay by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald gives “Snowden” a feel of a good espionage thriller. The two and one-quarter hour picture moves rapidly.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt gave a good performance in the title role. He even wore the same glasses as Snowden, who appeared as himself at the end of the feature. The supporting cast includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Scott Eastwood, Nicholas Cage, Joely Richardson, Robert Firth, Timothy Olyphant, Logan Marshall-Green, Ben Schnetzer, LaKeith Lee Stanfield, and Rhys Ifans.
