My Review

“Sleeper” is a science fiction comedy movie where Woody Allen plays the owner of a health food store who wakes up two hundred years into the future. He soon discovers that his business is in trouble in light of recent scientific discoveries that foods like donuts and potato chips are actually nutritious for human consumption.

Woody Allen expertly crafted this humorous film, co-writing the screenplay with Marshall Brinkman. They used numerous sight gags and comedic elements reminiscent of Buster Keaton, Groucho Marx, and Bob Hope. There are also the patented Allen quips that seem adlibbed.

Co-stars include Diane Keaton, Don Keefer, Bartlett Robinson, Mary Gregory, Marya Small, John Beck, and Douglas Rain. This watchable comedy “Sleeper” has elements of Rip Van Winkle, and was a hit at the box office for United Artists.
