“Silent Movie” is Mel Brooks’ attempt to salute the silent film era. However, the director-screenwriter falls flat on his face with this monumental dud of a motion picture. The 87 minutes were so boring due to lackluster direction and bad writing that viewers could fast-forward the whole thing and still get the gist of the picture.
The all-star cast did not help, which consists of Brooks, Dom DeLuise, Marty Feldman, Bernadette Peters, Sid Caesar, Harold Gould, Ron Carey, Charlie Callas, Henny Youngman, Fritz Field, and Howard Hessman. Celeb cameos include Liza Minnelli, Paul Newman, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Anne Bancroft (Mrs. Brooks), and Marcel Marceau uttering the only spoken word of the film, which was “no.”
“No” is what we say to this unwatchable silly nonsense in “Silent Movie,” which did have moderate success in theatrical release for Crossbow Productions and 20th Century Fox.
