My Review

“Shortcomings” is a comedy-drama film about a struggling filmmaker who reexamines his future when his girlfriend moves to New York City and he looses his job. Producer-director Randall Park confronts racial and relationship issues in this engrossing movie from the screenplay written by Adrian Tomine, who adapted it from his own comic book series of the same name.

Park, who has been an actor in television and film for years, did an outstanding job here in his directorial debut. His cast was excellent which includes Justin H. Min, Sherry Cola, Ally Maki, Tavi Gevinson, Debby Ryan, Sonoya Mizuno, Jason Batalon, Timothy Simons, Scott Seiss, Mike Cabellon, David Niu, Ronny Cheing, Stephanie Hsu, and Randall Park, the director, as Ji-Hun.

The very watchable and entertaining “Shortcomings” did not do well in theatrical release for Topic Studios, Tango Entertainment, Imminent Collision, Roadside Attractions, Picture Films, and Sony Pictures Classics.
