“She-Wolf of London” is an old-fashioned horror movie about a young heiress who believes that she may be the werewolf that has been murdering people around her neighborhood in London. Meanwhile, the drama builds as Scotland Yard investigates. The film is evenly paced, engrossing throughout, and quite scary for the 1940’s. Universal Pictures, the home studio for horror films in those days, assigned Jean Yarbrough (“The Over-the-Hill Gang” 1969) to direct and George Bricker to write the script, with fine results.
The movie features good acting by two young stars in the lead roles, both of whom would go on to fame and fortune in television roles. They are June Lockhart (“Lassie” 1958-1964, “Lost in Space” 1965-1968, “Petticoat Junction” 1968-1970) and Don Porter (“Gidget” 1965-1966 and other shows). Co-stars include Sara Haden, Jan Wiley, Lloyd Corrigan, Dennis Hoey, and Eily Maylon. “She-Wolf of London” has only a 61 minute running time, an interesting view on DVD these days.
