Zachary Levi delivers an entertaining performance as a teenager who is suddenly transformed into a superhero named “Shazam!” Levi brings his light and breezy and non-pretentious personality to this role; he played a similar part as Chuck Bartowski on NBC’s “Chuck” from 2007 to 2012.
Director David F. Sandberg (“Lights Out” 2016) also did his part in keeping the picture fun and amusing, as well as supervising the cast which includes Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Djimon Hounsou, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, John Glover, Michelle Borth, and Asher Angel as the younger version of Levi’s character.
The screenplay by Henry Gayden was adapted from characters in DC Comics, helping to make Warner Bros.’s “Shazam!” a watchable motion picture that was successful at the box office. One might reasonably expect a sequel sometime in the near future.
