“Santa Fe Trail” is a western film telling the story of two U. S. Army officers commissioned to hunt down abolitionist John Brown and stop his unauthorized raids. The pair are played by Errol Flynn as Jeb Stuart and Ronald Reagan as George Custer. A subplot has them competing for the affections of beautiful Kit Carson Holliday (Olivia de Havilland). The odds favor Stuart as this movie is the seventh of eight films Flynn and de Havilland appeared together.
Expert direction by Michael Curtiz (“Captain Blood” 1935) made this film a high quality production. The expert screenplay was written by Robert Buckner. Co-stars include Alan Hale, Van Heflin, Raymond Massey, Moroni Olson, Ward Bond, William Lundigan, Gene Reynolds, Henry O’Neill, and Alan Baxter. The watchable movie “Santa Fe Trail,” which has nothing to do with the actual Santa Fe Trail, was popular in theatrical release for producer Hal B. Wallis and Warner Bros. Pictures.
