My Review

“Saboteur” is yet another Alfred Hitchcock motion picture classic. This exciting and absorbing spy thriller tells the story of a factory worker in Burbank, California, falsely accused of starting a fire at the aircraft plant where he is employed. He then goes on a cross country trek to find the real killer, or saboteur, to coin a phrase.

Excellent focused direction by Hitch, and a superb screenplay by Peter Viertel, Joan Harrison, and Dorothy Parker make this picture a pleasure to watch. Wonderful performances were turned in by the talented cast, including the beautiful Priscilla Lane, Robert Cummings, Otto Kruger, Norman Lloyd, Alan Baxter, Alma Kruger, Dorothy Peterson, Ian Wolfe, Frances Carson, and Clem Bevans. Circus troupe members were portrayed by Pedro de Cordoba, Billy Curtis, and Anita Sharp-Bolster.

The very watchable “Saboteur” was a timely film in 1942, being released early in America’s involvement in World War II. It was a big hit at the box office for Frank Lloyd Productions, David O. Selznick Productions, and Universal Pictures.
