My Review

“RV” is a road comedy movie about a man who rents a motor home to take his family on vacation but soon finds that camping and togetherness can lead to a rocky road. Director Director Barry Sonnenfeld (“Wild Wild West” 1999) put together a film that has plenty of laughs and acceptable production values to qualify as good entertainment. Though formulaic, the movie was developed from an adequate screenplay by Geoff Rodkey.

The stars include Robin Williams and Cheryl Hines as the couple on holiday, Jeff Daniels and Kristen Chenoweth as fellow roadsters with offbeat personalities, Josh Hutcherson and Joanna Levesque as Williams’ teenagers, Will Arnett as Williams’ boss, Tony Hale as Williams’ co-worker, and others too numerous to mention.

“RV” qualifies as watchable escapist entertainment and was moderately successful at the box office for Columbia Pictures, Relativity Media, Intermedia Films, Red Wagon Entertainment, and Sony Pictures Releasing. “RV,” which was also titled “RV – Runaway Vacation,” was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards, winning one for the Worst Excuse for Family Entertainment award. Kristen Chenoweth was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress.
