Pierce Brosnan stars in yet another movie version of “Robinson Crusoe,” Daniel Dafoe’s 1719 classic adventure-survival novel. Directors Rod Hardy and George T. Miller and screenwriter Christopher Lofton ensured good production values and a good pacing to the film. Brosnan did well enough in the title role.
However, for a reason not made clear to us, the film was not released to general theater audiences anywhere in the world. It went directly to video. The supporting cast includes William Takaku, Polly Walker, Ian Hart, James Frain, Damian Lewis, Martin Grace, Ben Robertson, Lysette Anthony, Tim McMullan, Mal Tobias, Jim Clark, and Sean Brosnan, Pierce’s son, as the cabin boy. “Robinson Crusoe” is a watchable film from RHI Entertainment, Miramax Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures, and The Walt Disney Company.
