My Review

The third “Road” picture was truly a charm for Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, and Dorothy Lamour in “Road to Morocco.” It tells the story of Bing selling Bob into slavery in Morocco to make some cash, and soon regretting it. He goes on a search for his friend, and finds him engaged to a princess. She also has a long-time fiance, and somehow also falls in love with Bing. Huge complications and laughs proceed from there.

Director David Butler (“Kentucky” 1938) was loose at the helm of this comedy, as Hope and Crosby more or less direct themselves by this third movie in the “Road” franchise. He co-wrote the screenplay with Don Hartman. Co-stars include Anthony Quinn, Dona Drake, Vladimir Sokoloff, Mikhail Rasumny, George Givet, Leon Belasco, and Yvonne De Carlo in a small part early in her career.

Crosby performed several musical numbers written by Johnny Burke (lyrics) and Jimmy Van Heusen (music). “Road to Morocco” was a biggest hit in the series so far for Paramount Pictures. Stay tuned for more tomfoolery in the “Road” pictures to come.
