My Review

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet deliver stunning performances as a couple with severe personal problems whose marriage is deteriorating in “Revolutionary Road.” Producer-director Sam Mendes (“American Beauty” 1999) crafted an intimate look into a couple with issues and the people around them, from a marvelous screenplay by Justin Haythe. It was adapted from the 1961 novel of the same name by Richard Yates, with the set in 1950’s American suburbia.

Winslet and DiCaprio were reunited from 1997’s blockbuster hit “Titanic.” Their familiarity with each other may have contributed to the success of their performances in this picture. The supporting cast includes Kathy Bates (another “Titanic” alum), Michael Shannon, Kathryn Hahn, David Harbour, Dylan Baker, Zoe Kazan, Richard Easton, Jay O. Sanders, Max Baker, Max Casella, Ryan Simpkins, Ty Simpkins, John Behlmann, Kristen Connolly, and Catherine Curtin as a woman in the audience.

The watchable “Revolutionary Road” was successful in theatrical release for DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, BBC Films, Neal Street Productions, Evamere Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures. It was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor (Michael Shannon), Best Art Design, and Best Costume Design.
