Director Rawson Marshall Thurber and actor Dwayne Johnson team up for a third time in “Red Notice.” The story has Johnson playing an FBI agent tracking a missing artifact from the first century that was a gift from Roman general Mark Antony to Egyptian ruler Cleopatra. He keeps running into problems as he is competing with two different art thieves played by Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot.
The chemistry is outstanding between the three principals played by Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot. They have excellent material to work with in the well-written screenplay by director Thurber, who keeps the high quality production values consistent throughout the fast-moving 118 minutes of the film. The comedy is well balanced with the action sequences.
The supporting cast includes Rita Arya, Chris Diamontopoulos, Vincent Amato, Rafael Petardi, Brenna Marie Narayan as Cleopatra, and singer Ed Sheeran in an uncredited cameo appearance. Dwayne Johnson and Rawson Marshall Thurber shared producer titles in their third collaboration, previously working together in “Central Intelligence” (2016) and “Skyscraper” (2018). The entertaining and watchable “Red Notice” from Netflix has a sequel or two planned, delayed due to the writers’ strike.
