Tom Selleck plays an American cowboy who travels to Australia and gets involved in local drama there. “Quigley Down Under” is a very entertaining western, patterned after old Hollywood films of the genre. Director Simon Wincer did a great job of combining well-paced action and adventure with excellent character development. A good screenplay penned by John Hill also helped.
The supporting cast includes Laura San Giacomo, Alan Rickman, Chris Haywood, Ron Haddrick, Tony Bonner, and Jerome Ehlers. The beautiful location shoots were well handled by cinematographer David Eddby. The watchable “Quigley Down Under” was a modest hit in release from Pathe Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
