My Review

“Quantum of Solace” has James Bond battling a diabolical organization bent on overthrowing the government in Bolivia. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and director Marc Forster (“Monster’s Ball” 2001) give this 22nd Bond film loads of action sequences but have stumbled with an unfocused plot, lack of direction, and loss of traditional 007 supporting characters, meaning no appearances for Q and Miss Moneypenny.

Despite the poorly written screenplay by Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade, Daniel Craig has done an outstanding job in his second stint as James Bond. (He would have a total of five films as 007: 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2021.) However, the supporting cast does not look good, including Mathieu Amalric as the eco-terrorist villain, Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Atherton as unmemorable Bond girls, plus Giancarlo Gianinni, Anatole Taubman, Jesper Christiansen, David Harbour, Rory Kinnear, Tim Piggot-Smith, Oona Chaplin, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, and Judi Dench back as M.

Despite problems, “Quantum of Solace” is a fun and watchable movie, and provides a quantum of action and adventure. It was a success at the box office for Eon Productions, Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Releasing, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
