My Review

“Pollyanna” is just one example of the high quality projects that Walt Disney gave to the world. Young actress Hayley Mills brought to life the irrepressibly positive Pollyanna from the 1913 children’s book by Eleanor Porter. The story tells how she survived several hardships, including the death of her missionary parents, and influenced everyone in her newly adopted town. Hayley was awarded the Oscar for the Academy Juvenile Award for her performance.

Director-screenwriter David Swift kept tight control over the entire creative process with outstanding results. Co-stars include Jane Wyman, Richard Egan, Adolphe Menjou, Agnes Moorhead, Nancy Olson, Kevin Corcoran, James Drury, Reta Shaw, Donald Crisp, Edward Platt, Mary Grace Canfield, Jenny Egan, and Anne Seymour. “Pollyanna” was successful at the box office for producer Walt Disney, Walt Disney Production, and Buena Vista Distribution.
