My Review

“Passengers” is an interesting science fiction movie featuring great chemistry between stars Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. A morality play comes into view when Pratt’s character, who himself is awakened out of 120 years of hibernation 90 years early, decides to revive a beautiful young woman from her pod aboard the space ship without her permission.

Director Morten Tyldum (“The Headhunters” 2011) and screenwriter Jon Spaihts put together an intelligent scifi drama with a small cast. Lawrence and Pratt do a good job at taking up most of the screen time, shared with Michael Sheen as the android bartender, Laurence Fishburne as the chief officer, Andy Garcia as the ship’s captain, Julee Cerda and Nazanin Bondiadi as hologram instructors, and Aurora Perrineau as a friend of Jennifer Lawrence’s character sending her a video message from Earth.

“Passengers” was nominated for two Oscars: Best Original Score and Best Production Design. The watchable two hour film was a success at the box office for Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures.
