My Review

“Paranoia” is slickly produced movie thriller featuring corporate espionage as the star of the show. Liam Hemsworth plays a man whose mistakes jeopardizes his job at a technology company. His bosses give him a chance to redeem himself if he will agree to get hired at a rival company and spy on his new boss. He soon gets caught up in a corporate feud between his old and new employers.

The performances are excellent in this film, especially Gary Oldman as his old boss and Harrison Ford as the new employer. Amber Heard plays his co-worker/girl friend, and Richard Dreyfuss appears as Hemsworth’s father. Other cast members include Lucas Till, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway, Angela Sarafyan, William Peltz, Kevin Kilner, Christine Marzano, and Charlie Hofheimer.

While the screenplay of this independent production, written by Barry L. Levy and Jason Dean Hall, and adapted from the 2004 novel by Joseph Finder, probably doesn’t cover any new cinematic ground, it is still a solid story, with sound directing by Robert Luketic (“Monster-in-Law” 2005), who provides good pacing, outstanding production values, and a certain amount of suspense that gives “Paranoia” the feel of a 1940’s film noir thriller.
