My Review

One of the worst movies of 2018 is definitely “Pacific Rim Uprising.” This sequel to 2013’s “Pacific Rim” suffers from a horribly written screenplay by Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, T. S. Newlin, and Steven S. DeKnight, who also made his directorial debut here. DeKnight’s inexperience shows.

Pity the poor actors who were hired to perform the inane dialogue from this group. The only positive characteristic of “Uprising” is the exciting action sequences featuring the battle between the robots and the monsters. The film made only enough income in theatrical release to cover the massive FX budget and advertising expense for Universal Pictures.

The cast includes John Boyega (one of the producers with Guillermo del Toro, the director of the original film), Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, Adria Arjona, and Karen Brar. Actors Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi reprised their original roles from “Pacific Rim.”
