My Review

“Outlander” is a science fiction story set in the eighth century Scandinavia, with a space traveler landing in the middle of problems between the locals. Unfocused directing by Howard McCain, who also wrote the terrible screenplay with Dirk Blackman, made this film an unmemorable theatrical experience. The picture seems to be an bad Nordic combination of “Alien” and “Predator.”

The cast is actually quite talented, head by Jim Caviezel and also includes Sophia Myles, Jack Huston, John Hurt, Ron Perlman, Aidan Devine, and child actor Bailey Maughan as the orphan boy Erik. The special effects were a strong suit of “Outlander,” but could not help this bad independent movie from being an unwatchable film and a flop at the box office.
