My Review

“Out Cold” is a dark comedy about a butcher and his wife whose marital problems reach a boiling point, or should I say a freezing point. Director Malcolm Mowbray (“A Private Function” 1984) guided this film with good pacing and plenty of laughs, from a well-written screenplay by Leonard Glasser and George Malko.

Teri Garr stands out as the butcher’s wife, delivering a sparkling comedic performance, one of the best of her career. Bruce McGill plays her hubby, John Lithgow is his business partner, and Randy Quaid appears as a private detective. Others include Larry Miller, Lisa Blount, Carole Goldman, Tom Byrd, Fran Ryan, Barbara Rhoades, Frederick Coffin, and Laura Alcalde. The watchable independent film “Out Cold” earned very little money in limited release in theaters for Hemdale Film Corporation.
