“Our Man Flint: Dead on Target” tells the continuing story of spy Derek Flint who moves on to become a private investigator. This made-for-television movie was intended as a pilot film for a TV series, but those plans fell through. Following theatrical releases “Our Man Flint” (1966) and “In Like Flint” (1967), this mediocre third film suffered from predictable plot lines and poor writing.
Ray Danton delivered an adequate performance, but did not distinguish himself in the role of Flint as Coburn had done. And perhaps the material was not a good fit for weekly television consumption. However, director Joseph L. Scanlan (“Knots Landing”) and teleplay writer Norman Kleeman did give it the old college try.
The supporting cast behind Ray Danton includes Sharon Acker, Susan Sullivan, Lawrence Dane, Gay Rowan, Donnelly Rhodes, Franz Russell, Linda Sorensen, and Kim Cattrall in an uncredited part as a secretary, one of her first roles. “Our Man Flint: Dead on Target” was aired on ABC in March, 1976.
