My Review

Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas are at a low point in their respective careers in “Original Sin.” This trashy “erotic thriller” was directed by Michael Cristofer (“Body Shots” 1999), who also wrote the dud of a screenplay.

The story is set in the 19th century in Cuba about an American mail-order bride (Jolie) sent to a wealthy Cuban businessman (Banderas), and really has no where to go but downhill in this shoddy and shopworn plot. Supporting actors Thomas Jane, Jack Thompson, Gregory Itzin, Pedro Armendariz Jr., James Haven, Lisa Owen, and Joan Pringle only seem to contribute to the mediocrity.

Sin is defined as “missing the mark” in the Bible. If this definition is applied to this movie, then “Original Sin” does indeed miss the mark. “Original Sin” was a box office bomb for Hyde Park Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
