My Review

“Ordinary Angels” is a faith-based drama movie about a hairdresser who rallies people in the community to help a widower with his daughter who needs a kidney transplant. Director Jon Gunn (“Do You Believe?” 2015) and screenwriters Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig have created quite a drama that is based on a true story set in the 1994 cold snap in Louisville, Kentucky. There is not a dull moment in this nearly two hour film, with good production values and outstanding performances.

The cast is headed by Oscar winner Hilary Swank as hairdresser Sharon Stevens who goes the extra mile to help out a widowed man with his two daughters. He is portrayed by Alan Ritchson, with Nancy Travis as his mother and Tamala Jones as Stevens’ boss. Others include Drew Powell, Amy Acker, Skywalker Hughes, Emily Mitchell, and Dempsey Bryk. “Ordinary Angels” is successful right now in theatrical release for Vertigo Entertainment, Stampede Ventures, Kingdom Story Company, and Lionsgate Films.
